Galion

Galion is a rural city of just over 10,000 people located in southeastern Crawford County. Major highways include US 30, and State Routes 19, 61 and 309. Galion is also located 30 minutes west of Interstate 71.

The community flourished when two rail lines came through in the 1850s, and major industries followed. They produced road graders, snow plows, farm equipment and grave vaults. Today, the dominant industry is healthcare services—in addition to a hospital and doctors’ offices, Galion has an OBGYN clinic and centers for dialysis, pediatric therapy, and orthopedics.

Galion is a history lover’s dream! Many homes, churches and other structures built in the 19th century and early 20th century remain standing. A major tourist destination is Brownella Cottage; the site is open for tours and also features a museum. Other historic landmarks include the Big Four Depot, Central Hotel, Gill House and Hosford House.

The city has several parks and reservoirs that offer a variety of recreational activities. Galion Community Theatre puts on numerous performances throughout the year, and there is a new art gallery located in the Historic Uptowne District. Galion is also minutes away from the Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and the Ohio State Reformatory.
